Originally we had planned to head down to Southern California after Christmas. Hank Humphreys and I were going to go diving at the Channel Islands with Truth Aquatics Dive Trips, but his wife went into early labor with their third child and was prescribed 5 weeks of bed rest and in the end a squall came up anyway and they canceled the dive. So we ended up with no real plans. At the last minute on New Year's eve we decided to go up to Sea Ranch.
We ended up lucking out, as someone canceled at the last minute on an ocean bluff property so we reserved it, loaded up the car and headed out to Magilligan's Bluff.

It was a nice large house built in the 70's, but thanks to the wood interior (which never goes out of style) it wasn't too retro.

We arrived in the evening and celebrated new years with a bottle of Sonoma sparkling Apple Cider.

We stayed for two days and it rained hard pretty much non-stop, which was fine, cause we just lay around read books, watched movies and played games. It did clear up one afternoon briefly and we went for a walk on the bluff amongst the Cyprus trees.

We had a very relaxing time.

On the drive home we turned off Highway 1 at Jenner up 116 and then cut over on the Bohemian Highway to Occidental. Just past Occidental where the Bohemian Highway ends at the Bodega Highway is a little town called Freestone. They have an awesome open hearth bakery, but it was closed. :(

We then cut over on 112 to Sonoma for dinner and then home.

Twas a very happy start to a new year.
