Oakland Zoo 2002

A Day at

Last weekend (March 2nd 2002) was a gorgeous weekend, and we all had colds. So, this weekend (March 9th 2002) we were determined to get out and enjoy the spring.

We headed off to the OakLand Zoo. Last year we signed up for a year family membership at the San Francisco Zoo, this year we choose Oakland. If you have one you can go to the other so we thought we would switch. I really like both Zoo's, one is in the hills over looking the bay and the other is right by the Ocean.

Sofi is that age where she sometimes she needs a nap and sometimes she doesn't, either way she is not interested in taking them, but at times she gets tired and cranky in the afternoon. This was one of those days.

The ONE animal thing that she said she did want to see "the monkeys" made her smile, here are some Saimangs.

We then went to the Children's Zoo, where she was overwhelmed by the goats.

No matter what we tried Sofi was not interested in feeding or looking at them

Eventually the goats surrounded us.

We also fed Gracie, a Scottish Highland Cow, we didn't even try Sofi out on her.

She loved to reach out for the food.

After we left the Children's Zoo, Sofi seemed much happier.

And we Kiah and Sofi towed the line up to the African animal section.

It was cool to see a lot of animals all together, Giraffes

Then we went to see the elephants.

There was a very weird plant outside the elephant compound.

Then we headed to the amusement portion of the Zoo, where they had rides.

Sofi had a good time waiting in line.

The train arrived

And there was a beautiful view of the bay

Then it was off to ride the merry go round

Sofi had a great time on her horse Tasha

Finally Kiah and Dad rode the big roller coaster.

Then we headed home, it was a great day at the zoo.
