Saturday morning Stacey, myself Robyn, Steve and all the kids piled into their Surban and drove out the backside of the park through the mile long Zion tunnel. Steve said he would pay anyone $10 who could hold their breath all the way through the tunnel, it is over a mile long and Steve paid me $10. We drove out to see the petroglyphs and posed for a couple of pictures.

The petroglyphs are not marked on any current Park literature, we happened upon them one year by accident. You have to drive out the long Zion tunnel, then back through the second very small tunnel and the first parking area you come to on your right you pull off, hike down the wash, underneath the road and the petroglyph's are on the cliff on your left. We then headed back for one of my favorite hikes up a little slot canyon. This one is also not marked on any trail. Just after you come out of the long Zion tunnel there is parking for the overlook trail. Everyone stops and goes on this trail which leads to the rim of the canyon and looks back down over the valley you just climbed out of. Just past the overlook trail entrance on the left is a small area with additional parking. If you park here, the canyon to your left is a very cool slot canyon. Again this is not marked on any maps, nor are there signs or a real trail. You just start walking up the wash.

This is looking down toward the road as you begin.
There are lots of obstacles to scramble over for the first 2/3rd of the hike such as the one below that Adam, Kiah and Sam are posing on.

At the top of most of the drops you have to climb up there is a pile of sand built up, Sofi wanted us to bury her like she was at the beach.

Pretty soon the canyon levels off and you just walk back along the sandy bottom and the walls begin to close in. Here is Sofi, Stacey and Robyn.

We happend to be hiking right at around 12:30 when a narrow sliver of sun hits the canyon floor for about five minutes.

Digital camera's are not too great at handling the extremes of picture taking and the sunlight comletely washes myself and Stacey out.

Sofi had a great time pretending she was pushing the canyon walls apart.

Near the back the canyon opens up a bit, here Ryan and Steve rest against the wall.

Sofi and Abby sat in the sand and played.

Kiah and Sam climbed up on the rocks.

I climbed up as far as I could to see if I could get up over the top of the canyon walls, but it got too steep at the end, here is looking back down the canyon.

At the end of our hike we posed for a group shot.
