This
was a travel day, where we left Quinalt and made our way north along 101 up
towards Port Angeles. The day was overcast and there was a light rain. Quinalt
Lake is beautiful even with clouds. We drove for a short while right along
the ocean. Olympic National Park's boundary
includes a large stretch of shoreline,
and several of the beaches adjacent to the road are known as Beach 1, Beach
2 etc. We stopped at Ruby
Beach.
We
walked out to the beach, and crossed a small stream to walk closer to some
of the fins and boulders. There was an amazing number of flat round stones
that had been shaped by the power of water, either the surf breaking on the
beach or the rivers meeting the sea.
From
there we drove north, stopping in Forks for lunch, where we had some awesome
chinese food. Then we turned east and drove along the northern
boundary of
the park past the beautiful Crescent Lake, where the road winds right along
the
shore. We arrived at Port Angeles in the evening and checked into a hotel.
That night we went and saw Holes at
a local theater.
