Destination : Tilden Lake, which has the advantage of being one of the farthest places from a road in California and is reported to have few visitors. Possibly also Benson Lake, but it might be too far, not sure. Benson Lake is supposed to have an awesome "beach" and very popular to hike to.
Trailhead depature : O'Shaughnessy Dam at Hetch Hetchy Resevoir,
Beehive Trailhead
Return point : O'Shaughnessy Dam at Hetch Hetchy Resevoir
This was the first route I layed out, not really to measure distance or propose daily routes, but mostly to see the possibilities of which trails to make loops out of. The question was wether to try to go to Benson Lake or wether to bypass (blue route).
This is a higher resolution map of the same.
In the end after reading about Benson Lake it sounded like we should go for it, so made up the following daily routes.
And higher resolution of the same
Hike 5.7 miles gaining 2939 feet to Beehive Meadows. Start out easy the first day.
Hike 12.6 miles gaining 3376 feet to Tilden Lake.
Hike 12.2 miles gaining 2813 feet, with a lot of downhill to Benson Lake.
Hike 15.27 miles with an elevation gain of 4319 feet up to what I hope is a stream on Rancheria Mountain, this is so that day 5 is not such a hike out. We could stop at Table Lake in Pleasant Valley which would only be 10.18 miles, but that makes day 5 pretty long.
Hike 10.21 miles gaining only 857 feet and going mostly downhill, 5332 feet back to Hetch Hetchy Resevoir. This will pass through several falls.
River rafting trip down the Tuolumne River and home.
