Kauai

When it was raining we went out on drives around the island. One place we went together was Opakela Falls which is on a ridge above the Wailu River. You can take tour boats up to the Fern Grotto or you can rent Kayaks and paddle up yourself. I recommend the kayak. There is also another waterfall up the river that you can hike to. We did not venture up the Wailu this year.

The Scott family poses.

One evening down on the beach in front of our house a monk seal beached itself.

Derek and I set up the National Geographic encounter shot.

(Click for larger version, which shows more clearly the look of horror on both the seal and Derek)

One day when it rained we even tried Anini Beach, but it was raining too hard, however we did recreate the hanging tree shot from our first visit.

Sadly all good things must come to an end and the Scott left us on Saturday to return home.

We stayed another day, and spent time going to see the Lighthouse at Kileau.

You had a beautiful view of the coast.

The land around the lighthouse is also a bird sanctuary, if you look closely all those white dots on the hillside are birds.

This is a small island off the point of the light house, again full of birds and the surf looked really pretty breaking off the surrounding reef.

In the visitor center, Sofi conquered the Island of Kaui.

We spent one last evening on the beach and then the next day we were off to Maui.
