In
between our second and third dive we had an awesome Tri-tip lunch. When we
anchored again at ???, Hank and I were the first ones in
the
water. The Captain
described
this as a popular site for Harbor Seals. Hank and I made our way towards the
shore, swimming in fairly shallow depths, among the rocks and kelp. The sunlight
and scenery was breath taking. I have never seen so many purple sea urchins.
There
were
sections
where
every inch of the ocean floor was covered with them. You can see the amazing
picture from Seapics.com to
the left. (click for a larger view). We also saw several seals. The most amazing
was a juvinile seal and its mother who hung out and followed us around for
about 30 minutes or so. They seemed to like nibbling at our flippers and the
young seal was very curious. At one point the mother seal came face to face
with Hank and rubbed her whiskers on his gloves before racing off. It was the
highlight dive of the day.
